You did and you are right.
I am sure Bolen (and us fans) in the end would prefer to have Bolen win the NCAAT with a finish over Zahid, or at least with Zahid in the field. It would be more savory from a competitive stand point just like it was for Mekhi over Joseph. But Joseph actually showed up.
The purest in me says that part of winning the championship is not just scoring more points in the match...it involves actually getting to the mat in the first place and all the things the wrestler does to get there. For example, if a wrestler struggles to make weight and for whatever reason fails to make weight at the NCAAT then he is not the best collegiate wrestler at that weight. That goes for other things such as academic suspensions, cheating/drug use or whatever that might give a collegiate competitor the edge, or even the accidental injury. If the rumors are true, then Zahid may have only been great because of his transgressions - we will never really know. It is on Zahid if his career ends up being tarnished. And IMHO it is Zahid who would have the *asterisk* not Bolen, should Bolen win out.
Whether Zahid is in the field or not, if Bolen wins he is the champion and best at that weight. He made it to the mat and competed.
